Morag Carter

Director

Morag has been the Executive Director of the Skills Centre and its sister organization, Inside Job Consulting, since 2017. Based in a resource dependent community in rural BC, the Skills Centre is a non-profit whose mission is to strengthen rural and industrial communities in BC through workplace skills development, training services, social development and business supports. The Skills Centre also led the development and is coordinating the implementation of the regional poverty reduction program Thriving For All.

Prior to that Morag spent about 25 years in the Canadian environmental non-profit sector where she designed and implemented a number of successful – occasionally even transformational – campaigns on chemical safety and human health, marine ecology and climate and energy. She has worked for a number of leading national and international environmental organizations including both Greenpeace and the David Suzuki Foundation where she led the climate and energy team for a decade.

Throughout her career, Morag has participated in teams that spanned organizations and as a result has built or contributed to local, national and international NGO networks and coalitions that have required each participating member to have the active support of their own organizations. As a result, she is passionate about ensuring the success of the whole sector.

In addition to building a career in the Canadian charitable sector, Morag has contributed to strengthening the sector as a volunteer and board member for many non-profits. She currently chairs the Lower Columbia economic and community development organization and is a past board member of Neighbours United, the International POPs Elimination Network, the Climate Action Network, the Malcolm Island Co-op and many others.

Morag’s pursuit of environmental justice and community inclusion is her life-long passion, but when she’s not doing that, Morag can be found hiking in the woods, reading a good book with a glass of wine, singing along with the crowd at a concert or designing and building a corset.
