Introduction to Project Management for Non-Profits

Are you challenged by the number of projects that need doing?
How will you prioritize? Set realistic expectations? Manage scarce resources? Communicate with affected parties internally and externally? Assess risks? Schedule tasks efficiently? Measure success?

A new collaboration with PM-Volunteers, (the Project Management Volunteers Society) will introduce you to the essential project management tools and processes that will help you move forward in planning and executing projects. This workshop is tailored specifically to the needs of non-profit and social-profit organizations.  

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Articulate the different stages of a project, and the key needs of each
  • Share a common terminology so there is consistency in communicating and reporting
  • Become familiar with templates we will give you to modify and use going forward
  • Practice applications in breakout periods

Suggested Participants:

Leaders in non-profit and social-profit organizations including managers, task leads, Executive Directors, CEOs and Board members.

Participants will gain an understanding of key project management tools and processes, learn when they apply, and how they will make a difference to you in managing projects and your organization in more effectively meeting your goals.  


The workshop will cover the following topics in an interactive, discussion-filled format:

  • The stages of any project
  • Common terms and processes
  • How to draft a Project Charter
  • How to complete Project Risk Assessments
  • How to create a Work Breakdown Structure
  • How to manage project communications
  • How to prepare Project Closing reports that are useful

Christiana Adeshina, Project Management Volunteers

Christiana Adeshina is a Certified Project Management professional (PMP) with over a decade experience in Project and Change Management in the Aerospace and Health sectors in the UK and Canada. She currently works as a Strategic Project Leader in Fraser Health, which is one of the largest health authorities in Canada and the largest in British Columbia. Her work involves collaborating with senior leaders in shaping and successfully implementing complex transformation initiatives. Christiana has a diverse background, having initially trained as a chartered accountant and internal auditor before moving on to project management. Christiana joined PMV Workshops team in Dec 2022 as a Facilitator.

Wendy Cedeno, Project Management Volunteers

Originally from Ecuador.
Her main project experience was at the Guayaquil Airport where she had a dual participation as IT Coordinator and Procurement Controller. Wendy holds a Post Degree in Project Management from Canada, an MBA, a Bachelor in Information Systems, a specialization in Public Procurement and certifications such as ITIL,  Azure and IBM Data Analyst.
She is currently a coordinator/administrator for a video surveillance camera installation company in Vancouver.
