Director of Engagement and Advocacy

Prairie Chiu received her Master of Social Work degree from Smith College School for Social Work in Northampton, MA and served diverse clients in various community settings in Boston, MA and Seattle, WA. She has provided mental health assessment and treatment to seniors, children, and families, with a specialty in expressive therapies and minority mental health. Compelled to impact systemic change, Prairie transitioned into project management and public health administrative roles, including leading diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives at Navos Mental Health, and managing provincial overdose prevention and response granting networks and capacity building projects at Community Action Initiative.

A recent graduate of the United Way Public Policy Institute, Prairie has advocated for continued funding and support of innovative community-led harm reduction initiatives, engaging peer and government stakeholders in the process.

Prairie is a first-generation immigrant from British Hong Kong and is fluent in Cantonese. In her spare time, she hones her Celtic fiddling skills and plays for contra dances. Prairie is registered with the BC College of Social Workers.
