Jenessa is our Engagement and Advocacy Coordinator, who has a passion for volunteering and continually pushing the non-profit sector forward. She’s an advocate for connecting, collaborating, and learning from the community – they’re the experts!
Jenessa completed a Bachelor of Arts at UNBC, with a major in International Studies and a minor in Political Science. Throughout her studies, Jenessa focused on the United Nations Responsibility to Protect, human rights, and societal change and development. As a summer student with Carrier Sekani Family Services, she provided clerical support and gained knowledge and understanding of working with an Indigenous organization. Upon graduation, Jenessa worked at Hadih House, a local community centre facilitating programs, providing outreach and support, and working with community members on a daily basis. She also worked as a Community Development Manager with Carney Hill Neighbourhood Centre where she collaborated with organizations across sub-sectors, facilitated programming, and supported the overall mission of the organization.
Outside work, you might find Jenessa canoeing, taking her dog to the park (he plays a great game of hide and seek), cross stitching, reading, traveling, and most of all, listening to live music (which she misses a lot). If she could be anywhere at any given moment, it would be in a rubber dingy on a lake in the sunshine. Ask Janessa about BC’s non-profit sector or where to visit in Northern BC!
