Strategic Mergers and Amalgamations

Our Approach

Collaboration between non-profit organizations can take many forms, from information-sharing and strategic partnerships to mergers and amalgamations. Increasingly, organizations are exploring these approaches to strengthen their impact, resilience, and relevance.

Strategic partnerships and organizational integrations are not part of the standard organizational playbook. When organizations are considering how to collaborate more closely, external support can add real value. A merger or amalgamation, for example, can raise a range of considerations from client impact, values and culture, and governance to legal, human resources, financial, branding, and operational matters.

Merger, Amalgamation and Integration Support

Considering a merger, amalgamation, or deeper collaboration? Vantage Point supports organizations through the full process, from exploring whether integration is the right fit to developing a practical plan to navigating implementation. Our experienced consultants facilitate the conversations, planning, and coordination needed to help organizations make informed decisions and move through change thoughtfully.

Our support can include:

  • Consideration: Facilitating discussions between boards and senior leaders, exploring collaboration models and their implications, assessing organizational fit and readiness, and building consensus toward a decision about whether and how to proceed.
  • Planning: Facilitating the integration planning process, including identifying key workstreams, risks, milestones, accountabilities, and measures of success, while coordinating with specialized legal, HR, and accounting resources as needed.
  • Implementation: Supporting organizations as they put the integration plan into action, including regular progress check-ins, conversations about culture and ways of working, and the transition of governance, leadership, and decision-making practices.

Working With Us

Our consultants work with organizations to identify the key questions and issues as they explore a merger, amalgamation, or deeper partnership. Through facilitated discussion, we help organizations assess feasibility, clarify what would need to be true to move forward, and build shared understanding among leaders and boards. Whether or not integration ultimately proceeds, the process can provide valuable opportunities for learning and organizational reflection.

Our facilitation is guided by four principles:

  • Purpose before process: We clarify objectives and desired outcomes to design focused agendas, establish useful discussion boundaries, and choose the right activities.
  • Inclusion with intention: We create space for diverse perspectives and ensure different voices can meaningfully contribute to the conversation.
  • Focused but adaptable: We maintain momentum toward agreed outcomes while responding to new information, emerging issues, and the needs of the group.
  • Respect for context: Every organization and partnership is different. We adapt the language, process, and approach to fit the people, organizations, and circumstances involved.
