Leadership: Introduction to Project Management for Non-Profits

Workshop Description

This dynamic workshop—delivered in partnership with the Project Management Volunteers Society (PM-V) and Vantage Point—takes place over two half-day sessions and is specially designed to give busy leaders the practical project-management fundamentals they need.

You’ll explore how to prioritise multiple projects, set realistic expectations, manage scarce resources, communicate with diverse stakeholders, assess risks, create meaningful deliverables, and measure success. Using real-world tools and breakout application exercises you’ll finish with templates and a clearer project-management language to use in your organisation.

Suggested Participants:

Executive Directors/CEOs, Managers, Youth Leaders, and other senior leaders of non-profit organizations.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Articulate the different stages of a project, and the key needs of each.
  • Share a common terminology so there is consistency in communicating and reporting.
  • Become familiar with templates we will give you to modify and use going forward.
  • Practice application of the templates with peers.

Workshop Benefits:

  • Gain clarity and language – Develop a shared project-management vocabulary so your team can communicate clearly, consistently and confidently.
  • Use practical templates and tools – Walk away with ready-to-use templates you can customise and apply immediately in your organisation.
  • Manage projects more effectively – Learn how to guide projects through each stage—from initiation and chartering through risk assessment, scheduling and closing—to better meet your goals.
  • Engage the right stakeholders, at the right time – Understand when and how to involve team members, partners, funders or others—and how to tailor your communication for each group.
  • Work hands-on and apply your learning – This workshop includes breakout sessions so you can practise tools and techniques rather than just hear about them.
