Good strategic plans don’t just live on a shelf. They live through effective operational planning and ground-level decisions about programming, finances, hiring, and more.  

In this workshop, we will explore the different ways that strategic plans are converted into actions and decisions. This may involve structural changes, leadership support, community engagement, resource allocation, and capacity building. It may also involve operational planning and embedding values into organizational processes and policies.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Describe different types of operational plans and how they can be developed and monitored
  • Describe types of key performance indicators and other measures of success
  • Identify potential changes to structure, capacity, and communications that will support implementation
  • Identify how resource allocation and budgeting may align with strategic plans
  • Describe the purpose and development of a “strategy filter”
  • Identify ways to embed organizational values in processes and policies

This workshop is ideal for Executive Directors, CEOs, or other senior staff leaders, as well as Board members, of non-profit organizations who want to translate their strategic goals into action and impact.

With over 20 years of experience in the public sector, Nicole Stinson has developed a distinguished career working with non-profits and various orders of government. As the Founder and Senior Strategist of Upside Solutions Inc., she leverages her extensive expertise in enterprise risk management (ERM), policy and program development, inter-governmental relations, and strategic initiatives to help organizations achieve their goals and improve governance.

Nicole has successfully implemented enterprise risk management (ERM) frameworks and processes, leading the design and integration of these systems into both strategic and operational planning. With extensive experience in facilitation, she takes an inclusive approach to productive collaborations, decision-making, and problem-solving. Nicole enjoys embedding ERM best practices to ensure that organizations optimize performance, and achieve sustainable results aligned with their objectives.

In addition to her professional work, Nicole has actively volunteered on non-profit boards in leadership and advisory roles, demonstrating a commitment to advancing the goals of purpose-driven organizations.

Nicole is known for her people- and culture-centered approach to change management, particularly in the introduction of new systems and processes. This approach underscores her dedication to fostering positive organizational change and achieving impactful outcomes.
